How to Play Powerball in California
If you want to play Powerball in California, it’s easy to get started. Simply visit an authorized lottery retailer and purchase a ticket for $2. You can also add the Power Play option for an extra $1 to multiply non-jackpot prizes. The Powerball jackpot starts at $20 million and continues to roll over until it's won! Follow these steps to secure your chance of winning that top prize:
Pick your numbers
Select five numbers between 1 and 69. Pick a Powerball number from 1 to 26. In case you don’t have some numbers in mind, you can also ask for a Quick Pick ticket. With a Quick Pick, you get a random set of numbers generated by the lottery terminal.
Multi-Draw options
Decide if you want to enter the same set of numbers in multiple draws. Select the ‘Advance Play’ option on your playslip to enter up to 10 consecutive drawings.
Pay for your entries
One Powerball entry costs $2. You must purchase your tickets before 7:00 PM PT on the day of the draw. The game is even simpler to play in California than in any other participating state. If you do buy a ticket outside the borders of the Golden State, you can choose to add the Power Play option for an extra $1 to boost the value of non-jackpot prizes.
How to Win
You win Powerball prizes by matching the numbers you have selected to the winning numbers that are drawn. See the Odds and Prizes page to find out all the ways you can win.
When to check the results
Powerball draws take place three times every week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 7:59 PM PT. The results will be published on the Powerball Numbers page shortly after that.
